Michael has lived in San Diego since 1965 and retired from the City of San Diego
after a 26 year career as a Combination Building Inspector and Code Enforcement
Official. He is a licensed Building Contractor (inactive) and is certified as a
Multi-discipline Building Inspector by the International Conference of Building
Officials, a nationally recognized professional inspector certification organization.
He is a Superior Court certified expert witness regarding construction defects and
has inspected thousands of residential and commercial properties in his career.
He is the Lead Instructor for Kaplan Professional Schools – ITA in Oceanside, California
where he teaches professional home inspection procedures and is a California State
Certified Post Secondary Instructor.
He is a Certified Inspector Member, Certified New Construction Specialist, the Education
Chair, Secretary and Instructor for the San Diego Chapter of the California Real
Estate Inspection Association and is a Certified Inspector Member of the American
Society of Home Inspectors.
Michael has been featured in Time Magazine/MSNBC and is a trade journal published
author. His professional focus is occupant safety in the home, construction defects,
education, and professionalism in the real estate inspection industry. He takes
great pride in educating homeowners and providing them with information as to the
condition, recommended maintenance and corrective measures needed to maintain their
largest single investment - their home. He personally conducts and provides his
clients with comprehensive, accurate and easily understood written reports concerning
the condition of over 400 points of the major home systems such as the roof, structural,
exterior, interior, heating and cooling, electrical, and plumbing upon completion

Serving Homebuyer's since 2001, Michael now owns and operates The Michael J. Hart
Company and Real Property Inspection Service providing professional residential
and commercial inspections, consulting services and Homeowner and Realtor® training
with real estate firms such as ReMax®, Prudential®, Coldwell Banker®,
The Appraisal Institute®, The San Diego Association of Realtors® and others.
He volunteers his time and efforts with the Friends of Scott Foundation (Friends
To Children With Cancer) that provides education scholarships and support services
